Brazil Oil and Gas activity high in 2023

13/12/2023

Brazil has been a hotspot for oil and gas exploration in recent decades. With a licence round about to be released will that shed light on where future reserves are coming from. Will there be high interest in the Equatorial margin despite environmental challenges to existing attempts to drill? Could the Pelotas basin, conjugate to the Orange basin offshore Namibia, in the South be drawing high interest? Or will interest be mainly around the established basins of the Campos and Santos?

In their latest video, 1st Subsurface, TROVE give a summary of activity offshore Brazil including Campos basin Equinor's Raia Manta & Raia Pintada development plans submitted, Prio reaching 100,000 b/d developing Frade field and plans for the Wahoo development. Petronas are drilling their fist wells offshore Brazil, Mola-1 & Foca-1. Sucuarana drilled by Shell is gas shows. Petrobras plans for revitalisation of Marlim and Voador targeting 920,000 boe/d for the Campos basin by 2027.

The Santos basin update includes Equinors Bacalhau FEED awarded to MODEC, Buzios oilfield continues to be developed with a 5th FPSO on production and Sagitario FDP deadline is March 2024 with a new appraisal well to be drilled ahead of submission.

In the Espirito Santo basin BW Energy is developing the Golfinho cluster alongside near discoveries such as Camarupim and Brigadeiro.

In the Equatorial Margin the Foz do Amazonas Basin Morpho prospect wes due to be drilled last year but its environmental licence was delayed by IBAMA.

On the international scene, Brazil is about to become a member of the OPEC+ coalition in January 2024.
