The Oil & Gas Technology Centre (OGTC), which is developing and delivering technologies for an affordable net zero North Sea, today comments on CCC’s Sixth Carbon Budget announcement.  

Colette Cohen OBE, OGTC Chief Executive said:
“Today’s announcement underlines the need for urgent investment to build an affordable net zero energy future for the UK. The Progressive scenario from our recent ‘Reimagining a Net Zero North Sea’ report is consistent with the growth in wind required by the CCC to meet this Sixth Carbon Budget, creating thousands of green jobs, huge economic value and major export opportunities for the UK. To deliver this, we need to act now, invest at pace to unlock technology for offshore floating wind, blue and green hydrogen and carbon capture and storage, while decarbonising oil and gas production. 

“The UK can become a supplier, rather than a buyer, of low carbon energy technologies and this is an exciting potential future. COP26 is a golden opportunity to demonstrate global leadership.”
