Encavis sells minority stake of 49% in wind farm portfolio in Austria

21/12/2020

The SDAX-listed wind and solar park operator Encavis AG has sold 49 percent of its wind park portfolio in Austria to the largest regional Austrian energy supplier, WIEN ENERGIE GmbH. The three wind farms "Pongratzer Kogel" and "Herrenstein" in Styria and "Zagersdorf" in Burgenland have a total generation capacity of 36.2 MW.

"The renewed sale of minority shares in a wind farm portfolio remains our guideline for strengthening our internal financing power and further diversifying our portfolio", explained Dr. Dierk Paskert, CEO of Encavis AG, this strategic direction for the group.

The Encavis Group's strategic course to sell minority shares of up to 49 percent in selected wind farms to institutional investors or energy providers releases existing cash reserves for investment in further projects, confirms the valuation of the assets in the existing portfolio (according to IFRS) and results in book profits in the individual financial statements (according to HGB).

"We are pleased that with this transaction, which was concluded in competition with a very large number of different bidders, we can once again provide evidence of the intrinsic value of our existing portfolio. Our selective acquisition as well as the technical and commercial optimization of our parks creates significant values - as this example repeats This proof of value, which is already included in our forecast key figures for this year, once again confirms that our 2020 guidance has been achieved," emphasized Dr. Christoph Husmann, CFO of Encavis AG, the positive financial effects of this transaction.

With this wind park acquisition, Wien Energie is reaffirming its regional focus and strengthening its portfolio of renewable energy generation, which, in addition to the main focus on photovoltaics, also includes wind and hydropower plants. By acquiring part of the three wind farms, Wien Energie is reducing the CO 2 emissions from its own energy generation by around 14,500 tons per year.

"In addition to the expansion of photovoltaics, the expansion of our wind power portfolio is an important component in achieving the climate targets. With this participation, we can generate a further 37 gigawatt hours of renewable energy in the future and thus supply the equivalent of 14,800 households in Vienna with CO 2 -free", emphasized DI Mag. Michael Strebl, CEO of Wien Energie GmbH, explained the investment in renewable energy generation for security of supply and climate protection in the state.
