PESGB: Pathways for Geoscientists in a Net-Zero Future

10/01/2022

19 - 20 May 2022 | London, UK

Society faces a dual challenge - how to make a transition to a low-carbon energy future to manage the risks of climate change, while also extending the benefits of energy to everyone on the planet. This transition is a challenge that requires changes in how energy is produced, used, and made accessible to more people while drastically cutting emissions.

This transition is underway. Although many predict oil and gas will be required for decades to come, the role of the geoscientist is changing. Considering the discovered resources and new requirements, there are changes in what, how, and when to explore and utilize.

Geoscientists have unique insights on long-term processes impacting the earth, are skilled in dealing with uncertainty, collaborate with other sciences, and deal with large amounts of data.

Pre-Forum Webinars

In the lead-up to the forum, the AAPG will be hosting dedicated one-hour webinars bringing together high-level speakers that will introduce each of the topics and start shaping the discussion. The webinars are free and open to all.

The first webinar ‘Maximizing Future Impact of Geoscientists’ is scheduled for 13 January 2022 and frames an aspirational vision for how geoscientists can drive impact on a truly global scale during the Energy Transition. Geoscientists today face a daunting, multi-faceted challenge of shifting to a netzero energy future, supplying the energy the world needs today while also shaping a fulfilling, long-term career.
