Training: Cambridge Carbonates virtual carbonates courses

22/09/2022

Next week, Cambridge Carbonates are hosting three virtual courses/workshops on carbonates:

27-28 Sept 2022: SE Asia Tertiary carbonate reservoirs.

This 2-day course focusses on the methodology of reservoir characterisation and petroleum system analysis to understand the hydrocarbon and CCS potential for Tertiary carbonate systems in SE Asia. Key objective of the course include:

  • Understanding how evolving oceanographic conditions through the Tertiary influence carbonate systems, their diagenesis and reservoir quality.
  • Understanding the unique features of the sequence stratigraphic controls of carbonate systems.
  • Understanding the seismic geometries and attributes assist in the interpretation of carbonates.
  • Understanding the application of various petrographic and analytical techniques to solving reservoir quality issues in carbonates.

27 Sept 2022: Zechstein Reservoirs of NW Europe.

This 1 day workshop provides geoscientists with up to date information on the petroleum systems, with learnings including:

  • Understanding the complexities and approaches to working in mixed carbonate-evaporite successions
  • Details of the Zechstein stratigraphy, sedimentology, and depositional environments.
  • Insights into the depositional reservoirs and source rocks within the Zechstein, and discuss the impact of diagenesis, brecciation, fracture systems and secondary porosity
  • Depositional sequences and diagenetic studies will be demonstrated by a virtual field trip in NE England.

29-30 September 2022: Reservoir characterisation 1: Facies analysis, depositional systems and sequence stratigraphy of pure and mixed carbonate systems.

This course provides an introduction to the controls on reservoir architecture and offers a practical introduction to the techniques and work flows involved in carbonate studies aimed at integrating core logging, microfacies studies, carbonate facies analysis, sequence stratigraphy well correlation and the application of seismic and log data to understanding the architecture carbonate systems.
