Falck Renewables officially inaugurates the wind farms of Åliden and Brattmyrliden, in Sweden, with community benefit schemes activated with local associations, for the development of projects for the area.
The Brattmyrliden wind farm (74.1 MW), near Trehörningsjö, in the municipality of Örnsköldsvik, went into operation in June 2021. The Åliden wind farm (46.8 MW), in Vasternorrland, in December 2019.
At the inauguration ceremony held yesterday in Långtjärn (north-eastern Sweden) - postponed until now for safety reasons due to the pandemic - local representatives and associations joined Falck Renewables for the official opening of the two wind farms.
Christian Stöttrup-Andersen, Head of Construction Onshore at Falck Renewables, said:
"We are happy to officially inaugurate our first two wind farms in Sweden. Without the support of the local community, projects like these would not be possible and it is a great pleasure for us to be able to share the value created by our plants with the local area. and many local companies have been involved in the construction of the parks and the funds made available to the community have already allowed the development of projects that are highly appreciated at the local level".
In line with Falck Renewables' goal of creating shared value with local communities in the areas in which the company operates, part of the proceeds generated by the two wind farms are destined for community benefit schemes, managed in Brattmyrliden by Brattmyrlidens Intresseförening and Åliden by Trehörningsjö Intresseförening.
Both community benefit schemes support local projects, selected by association members, in areas such as rural development, education, the environment and leisure. To date, the associations have carried out more than ten projects, from the renovation of public bathing facilities - including an accessible floating dock - to new windows for the citizen's house, the renovation of a cottage chimney , a new site for the barbecue near one of the lakes in the area and the arrangement of a small bridge between the North and South Nordsjö lakes.
Over the past three years, Falck Renewables has also been running a Student Support Scheme for Sustainable Energy Studies in Sweden. In line with the Group's commitment to providing support to young professionals in the field of sustainable and renewable energy, the Support Scheme is aimed at students and those who wish to increase their skills in the sector, residing within a radius of 500 km from wind farms in Åliden and Brattmyrliden. The winner for 2022 will receive funding to cover travel expenses for their studies, training materials, internet connection and any equipment.
A traditional Swedish fishing event with local fishing associations took place during yesterday's opening, during which chars were released in lakes Storkvarnsten, Önskasjön, Lidtjärn and Långtjärn, near the wind farms.
Lars Strömgren, representative of the Brattmyrliden associations and fisheries, commented:
"We are very happy to be able to support, together with Falck Renewables, the local fishing associations. This quality fish, placed in the lakes, will bring much joy to the community in the coming years. years".
