• BP announces approval for development of second phase of giant Khazzan field
• Ghazeer project expected on stream in 2021
• Drilling on three development wells already underway
• BP will add another 0.5 billion cubic feet of gas a day to its production from the giant Khazzan field in Oman’s Block 61, following a final investment decision (FID) to develop the second phase of the project.

In April 2018, BP together with its partner, the Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production, confirmed that the Ghazeer project is expected on stream in 2021. Drilling on three development wells is already underway, with initial construction work also in progress at Khazzan to accommodate a third gas train.

The approval for Ghazeer follows the successful start-up of Khazzan’s first phase of development in September 2017. One of BP’s seven major projects for last year, it is now producing at design capacity of around 1 billion cubic feet of gas a day (bcf/d) and around 35,000 barrels a day of condensate

Together, the Khazzan and Ghazeer developments are expected to deliver total production of 10.5 trillion cubic feet of gas and around 350 million barrels of condensate through until the end of the concession in 2043.
