C-NLOPB Updates Volume Estimate for White Rose Field

16/01/2023

The staff of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) have updated the most likely recoverable oil, contingent gas and natural gas liquid (NGL) resources estimate for the White Rose Field.

Following the announcement from Cenovus Energy to move ahead with construction of the Wellhead Platform and the White Rose Extension Project, a decision that has extended the end of White Rose Field life from 2032 to 2038, C-NLOPB staff completed a reassessment of the oil Estimated Ultimate Recovery (EUR) and contingent gas and NGL resource estimates. The Proven and Probable (2P) results of this reassessment, compared to previous results completed in 2015, are as follows:

2P Oil Assessment Results:
The 2P EUR for the White Rose Field has increased to 436 million barrels (MMbbl) of oil, from the previous 404 MMbbl estimate. The increase is due to extended life of field.

2P Contingent Natural Gas Liquid Assessment Results:
The 2P Contingent Gas estimate for the White Rose Field has decreased to 1,497 billion standard cubic feet (Bscf), from the previous estimate of 2,716 Bscf. The decrease results from a change in methodology for assessment of gas resources.

2P Natural Gas Liquid Assessment Results:
The 2P NGL estimate for the White Rose Field has decreased to 45 MMbbl, from the previous estimate of 82 MMbbl. The decrease results directly from the decrease in gas volume.

The Petroleum Resource Management System adopted by the C-NLOPB defines EUR as the quantities of petroleum estimated to be recoverable as of a given date, plus the quantities that have already been produced.
