Kosmos announces sailaway FPSO vessel for Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project

23/01/2023

Kosmos Energy announces that the floating production, storage and offloading vessel ("FPSO") for the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim ("GTA") liquefied natural gas project has departed the COSCO shipyard in China to commence its voyage via Singapore to the project site on the maritime border of Mauritania and Senegal. The voyage is approximately 12,000 nautical miles and the vessel is expected to arrive in the second quarter.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Andrew G. Inglis commented:
"The sailaway of the GTA FPSO from the shipyard in China is a key milestone for the project. At the end of 2022, the project was around 90% complete and we look forward to an active 2023 where we expect to achieve a number of important milestones for the project and the company."

Rahman Rahmanov, bp’s vice president projects for Mauritania & Senegal said:
“We are developing one of the world’s most unique and innovative gas projects and the FPSO forms one of the most important components. Achieving the successful sail away of the GTA Phase 1 FPSO is a testimony to the tremendous partnership with our contractors Cosco Shipping and Technip Energies. By working together as one team, we have been able to create a culture of resilience and focus on safe delivery. We have relentlessly focused on safety, quality, and delivery.”

Greater Tortue

Kosmos opened a significant new hydrocarbon province when it discovered a large accumulation of natural gas offshore Mauritania and Senegal. Success at Greater Tortue was the result of applying the company’s proprietary knowledge of the overlooked Upper Cretaceous structural-stratigraphic play concept to the unique conditions of this region in which sands bypassed the shelf and deposited in deeper water.

A World-Scale, Fast-Track Gas Project
At Greater Tortue, a Kosmos-bp partnership is developing an innovative near-shore liquefied natural gas (LNG) project that is among the lowest cost greenfield projects in the world. The initial phase of the project is expected to deliver approximately 2.5 mmtpa of natural gas. The partnership is also evaluating potential expansion up to 10 mmtpa in subsequent phases.
