CMG Launch 2023 First Half Training Courses

31/01/2023

CMG have launched their European training courses for the first half 2023.

Gaining competence in using reservoir simulation software involves a lot of practice. It also involves guidance from an industry professional. With this in mind, CMG have created their lab-based training courses that provide the ultimate immersive experience using the CMG technology, so users learn faster (the majority of our courses are two-days long) and immediately apply skills at your workplace. With a hands-on approach you will make more progress in less time than you would in a traditional classroom.

Computer Modelling Group Virtual Classrooms:

Carbon Capture Underground Storage Modelling (UK)

  • Date: May 23 and 24, 2023
  • Time: 9:00am - 5:00pm BST (GMT+1)
  • Tutor: Marco Misenta

This course gives an overview of the modelling options built into the GEM simulator for CO2 Storage and Capture in an aquifer. A 2D model will be built and various CCS modelling tools will be progressively added on, starting from simple structural trapping down to mineralisation. The effect of each added process will be analysed in detail. The PVT package WinProp will be used for inputting the components properties and the aqueous and mineral reactions. The course will touch on the geochemical modelling features of GEM and its geomechanical modelling capabilities.

Modelling Geothermal Reservoirs in CMG (UK)
Date: May 31 and June 1, 2023
Time: 9:00am to 4:00pm BST (GMT+1)
Tutor: Reza Malakooti

In this course you'll learn about geothermal energy and various geothermal energy extraction techniques. Learn to simulate the extraction of geothermal energy and model the heat extraction by producing hot water from and injecting cold water into a hot geo-pressured reservoir using CMG’s thermal and advanced processes reservoir simulator STARS. Create, modify, and analyze simulation datasets and results using Builder and Results in this hands-on training course. Capture relevant reservoir processes and wellbore heat transfer using STARS and quantify the effect of various reservoir parameters on energy extracted using CMOST.

Course Content

Overview of geothermal energy:

  • Worldwide outlook
  • Methods of extraction

Overview of STARS Features and Applications:

  • Thermal properties and model creation
  • SAM wellbore modelling

Exercises:

  • Creation of Geothermal base model incorporating wellbore model and constraints
  • Adding water injectors to base model for pressure maintenance
  • Sensitivity analysis of a geothermal model using CMOST
  • Single Geothermal Well-Closed Loop System
