The Role – Technical Safety Engineer

The Technical Safety Engineer will work in the Technical Assurance and Engineering support team and will provide technical support across the organisation on Process Safety and the Control of Major Accident Hazards.

The Technical Safety Engineer will provide expert input to hazard identification, risk assessment and risk-based decision making, to support the organisation in demonstrating that risks are being managed to As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP). They will provide guidance on compliance with relevant regulations and industry good practice, covering all stages of the offshore asset lifecycle, including operational risk management, asset life extension, projects and management of change.

The Technical Safety Engineer will maintain an integrated understanding of Major Accident Hazard management on Serica’s assets and operations. They will support the management of the Offshore Safety Case, the supporting safety studies and Safety and Environmental Critical Elements. They will be involved with the monitoring and assurance of the continued suitability of the controls for Major Accident Hazards through barrier models and audit and assurance activities.

Working within a dynamic organisation, the Technical Safety Engineer will be required to manage competing priorities, balancing long term work scopes with support for emergent issues and priorities. It will be necessary to build effective networks within the company as well as representing the company with regulators and on external forums.

What we are looking for in potential candidates:

  • Related degree level qualification or equivalent experience,
  • Experience of providing support to Major Accidents Hazards (MAH) management across the asset lifecycle, with a focus on supporting the operational phase and brownfield modifications and projects.
  • Experience with hazard identification, risk assessment and decision making within the As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) framework.
  • Detailed familiarity with UK offshore safety regulations, industry standards, good practice and guidance related to the control of Major Accident Hazards.
  • Experience with management of offshore safety cases for operational assets, Safety and Environment Critical Elements (SECEs), Safety Studies, including Fire and Explosion assessments and Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA).
