HRH Geology Upcoming Training Opportunities

15/05/2023

Wellsite Geological Operations

Date: 6 June 2023 - 9 June 2023

Wellsite Geological Operations provides an overview of the role of the geologist at the wellsite during drilling operations. The course is structured in two modules that run consecutively. The first is based on the Introduction to Drilling course and is recommended for Operator company staff geologists who may be assigned to act as Wellsite Geologist but have not yet gained any wellsite experience. This part of the course is unnecessary for mud loggers or other persons with drilling experience who are transiting to the Wellsite Geologist role. Persons in this category would join the course for the second module that runs on days 3 and 4 of the course.

Managing Geological Operations

Date: 13 June 2023 - 15 June 2023

Managing Geological Operations examines the role of the Operations Geologist working in the Operator office and supervising the geological aspects of drilling a borehole. The course is split into three phases: Before Drilling, During Drilling and Post-Drilling duties.

Before drilling is concerned with writing the Geological Programme for the well and also closely examines the tendering process for obtaining the various specialist services required by the well.

During drilling deals with reports including the Daily Drilling Report, and the decisions required from the Operations Geologist

Finally the Post drilling phase focusses on the deliverables from the Operations Geologist – the Composite Log and the Final Well report

Petroleum Geology for Non-Geologists

Date: 19 June 2023 - 20 June 2023

Petroleum Geology for Non-Geologists provides a two-day introduction to the importance of geology to the Oil and Gas industry. The course is ideal for anyone having no previous geological background who may come into contact with geological issues before, during, and after drilling.

Introduction to Drilling

Date: 21 June 2023 - 23 June 2023

Introduction to Drilling is suitable for all Oil and Gas industry staff with no previous wellsite/drilling experience but who are likely to work with drilling operations in some way.

Interpreting Cuttings and Drilling Data
Date: 26 June 2023 - 27 June 2023

Interpreting Cuttings and Drilling Data is an extremely practical course that examines collection, processing, description, and packaging of the various drill cuttings samples collected as the well proceeds. A large proportion of the course uses Wellsite Geologist microscopes and UV fluoroscopes to describe samples of a variety of common rock types.

Integration of this geological data with parameters monitored while drilling (ROP, Torque, WOB, RPM, flow rate) enables the basic stratigraphic distribution of rock layers to be recognised and extends this to determination of possible bit failure and borehole stability issues.

Using Gas Data

Date: 28 June 2023 - 29 June 2023

Using Gas Data examines interpretations of the gases measured or collected by the mud logging contractor that can be made at the wellsite or geological office as drilling proceeds. The course covers the technologies used to extract gases from the drilling fluid as it returns to the surface, knowledge of which is important when considering data quality. Post-drilling uses of gas samples collected at the wellsite are introduced including carbon and hydrogen isotope analysis.

LWD/Wireline Interpretation for Wellsite Geologists

Date
:  4 July 2023 - 7 July 2023

LWD/Wireline Interpretation provides Wellsite and Operations geologists with the information required to interpret Logging While Drilling and Wireline data and as a result be able to identify formation tops, recognise variations in rock textures, and perform basic petrophysical calculations to identify, for example, suitable points to perform pressure tests or take fluid samples. Each topic is backed up with examination of real well logs throughout the course.
