New Finding Petroleum Webinars Focus on on Flaring and Emissions

05/06/2023

Finding Petroleum are putting together a series of one hour webinars on flaring and emissions, with the following 3 booked so far on 16th and 30th June, and 29th September:

An operational model for flaring, methane and CO2 emissions management

Date: Jun 16, 2023 03:00 PM
Location: Online
Speakers: Thomas Fox, President·Highwood Emissions Management LLC and David Bamford, Director·Future Energy Partners

Managing emissions is an operational activity, not a technology. It safe to say that no oil and gas company has yet mastered all of the components.

In their webinar on June 16 you will hear from a technology start-up based in Calgary and Houston, Highwood Emissions Management, which has got the closest we have seen to providing an operating model together with digital technology for doing it.

Flaring - why it's important, what can be seen, what can be done?

Date: June 30, 2023
Location: Online

In its 2022 Global Gas Flaring Tracker, the World Bank reported that, in 2021, 144 billion cubic metres of gas was needlessly burnt in flares at upstream oil and gas facilities across the globe, resulting in approximately 400 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent emissions, of which 361 MMtCO2e was in the form of CO2 and 39 MMtCO2e was in the form of methane.

144 bcm is almost double the UK's 2019 consumption of natural gas.

Thanks to a few published images, it should be generally known that flaring can be monitored from satellites. David Bamford of Future Energy Partners will use some satellite images from Terrabotics to illustrate the surprising extent of flaring in the Permian Basin, the UKCS and onshore UK.

Peter Sawyer of WSS Energy will show how flaring can be mitigated but also demonstrate that it is not always as easy to do so as some would claim.
