Carbon announces revenue growth with new premises and team expansion

26/09/2023

Leading, award-winning digital workplace specialists, Carbon, has announced a doubling in revenue as it reaps the rewards of diversification to support the energy industry in a transition to more modern workspaces.

Carbon, which has offices in Portlethen and Dunfermline, has doubled its growth in turnover as it focuses on helping companies move towards a more sustainable print environment and into the digital space with a suite of workflow solutions.

Carbon works with clients across the UK in several cross-sector industries with an increasing uptick from oil and gas and engineering firms looking to replace their traditional print systems with a digital solution, in line with the industry’s net zero goals.

The 14-strong team of specialists assess print requirements, processes and digital maturity to deliver robust software solutions via an online subscription-based business model, including cloud-based print management and digital workflows.

The company’s growth trajectory has been bolstered by a recent recruitment drive alongside an investment in larger premises. This year, Carbon increased its workspace in Portlethen by over 1500sq ft to accommodate the business expansion.

Two key new appointments have supported the company’s growth with Digital Services Director, Ryan Green, coming on board, as well as new company Chairman, Paul Devine, whose experience and in-depth knowledge of the print sector has strengthened Carbon’s capabilities.

Colin Yule, Carbon Managing Director, said,
“We were delighted to welcome Ryan and Paul to the team with their combined business acumen and skillsets helping to strengthen our service offering for clients.

“Ryan and Paul form part of our team of technical experts to support clients in their digital transition as we present solutions such as managed print services, equipment and a range of secure and tailored digital options for a modern-day workplace.”

Key to shaking up the market has been a drive to gain key industry accreditations to bring Carbon in line with globally accredited quality, management, safety and environmental standards.

Carbon has been awarded the internationally recognised ISO9001 – the world’s most recognised management system standard used by organisations to demonstrate their ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.  The company has also successfully gained ISO 14001 for its environmental management system.

“It’s extremely important that we maintain a strong corporate governance and a robust management system that demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement and progression as well as our environmental responsibilities,” said Colin.

Additionally, Carbon has selected two key partners, namely Epson and Canon, as they continue the drive to make technology work for changing working environments. By leveraging the energy industry’s goal of net zero emissions, Carbon is also a proponent of Heat-Free Technology as part of its sustainable printing goals.

“We are focused on changing the way our clients consume energy as we encourage smarter ways of working in a bid to reduce emissions while delivering cost efficiencies,” Colin explained.

Reinforcing the company’s commitment to net zero emissions are two recent award wins in the Epson Office Print Dealer Awards, held in August 2023. Carbon scooped the Special Recognition Award for its efforts in creating a change in the post-pandemic world, embracing new technologies to help businesses adapt to more efficient and sustainable work environments.

Richard Wells, Head of Sales for Office Printing at Epson UK, said,
“Carbon’s work force offers so much knowledge and expertise in the copier market. The business practices what it preaches from a sustainability perspective, with various initiatives in place to address their own carbon footprint.”

Carbon’s Digital Services Director Ryan Green scooped the accolade of Salesperson of the Year for his work to educate businesses on the environmental benefits of the shift from laser to heat-free inkjet printing.

“We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition, which highlights our commitment to innovation and delivering cutting-edge solutions to our valued customers,” said Ryan.

“These awards are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and expertise of our entire team. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to our customers and partners who have embraced the Epson Heat Free printers and recognised their value.

“As we celebrate these achievements, we remain dedicated to pushing the boundaries of innovation and delivering unparalleled printing & digital transformation solutions.”

Carbon has also secured a place in the finalists of the UK Print IT Awards, one of only two companies in Scotland to be shortlisted and the only finalists in the North East region.

After launching the company in 2019 in the months prior to the Covid pandemic, the Carbon team were forced to shift tack to stay relevant and assist clients in the transition to a different way of working for a workforce largely working from home.

“We quickly recognised the pandemic’s impact on global working practices and we completely turned the business around in 2020 to carve out new future-proof print and digital solutions,” explained Colin.

“We are passionate about helping companies move away from laborious paper processes and encouraging them to embrace digitalisation as we strive to maintain our industry leading position in the field of sustainable managed print and digital services.”
