Former Centrica and BP boss Iain Conn has joined Empirisys Limited as Chairman of the board from 1st September.

Empirisys helps high hazard organisations improve process safety and productivity by creating insight from structured and unstructured data through deploying products and services related to advanced analytics, machine learning and AI.

Mr Conn was chief executive of energy firm Centrica from January 1 2015 until 2020. He was CEO, downstream, at BP from 2007 until 2014 and a main board director of the energy giant from 2004 to 2014.  From 2004 to 2007 he had responsibility for most of BP’s group functions including safety and operational risk, and IT.  He is senior advisor for infrastructure, energy and sustainability at Blackstone, and has recently been elected as Chair of EngineeringUK.

Empirisys was founded by two senior executives from Centrica, Gus Carroll (formerly Chief Engineer) and Pete Sueref (formerly Director of Data Science) in 2020.  It has grown from the 2 founders to a current team of over 30 data scientists and engineers with forecast revenue of over £1 million.  It currently works with clients across the energy, chemicals, renewables and post Grenfell built environment sectors.
