United Clusters can take a Blue Quantum Leap

18 partners of GCE Ocean Technology explored an initiative that could create a broader national front to boost Norway's green exports within the ocean industries.

Norway's exports are weakening. At the same time, non-oil and gas exports is to be increased by 50% and we want to reduce CO2 emissions by 55% within 2030.

How can we accomplish this?

Supercluster can be a way forward

One of the means to achieve this, in our opinion, could be through Norway's unification via superclusters.

We have been working on such consolidation for some time, in collaboration with GCE Blue Maritime Cluster in Ålesund and the Energy Transition Cluster in Stavanger.

This week, the partners in GCE Ocean Technology gathered to provide their insights and framework for such a united cluster.

A tool for export

Collaborating closely with the aforementioned clusters, as well as our internal board and administration, we're dedicated to laying the groundwork for a national framework.

The ultimate end goal is to increase Norway's export of energy technologies.

"The industry is currently undergoing a tremendous industrial transformation—with significant national and international challenges, and therefore, significant opportunities", says Owe Hagesæther, CEO of GCE Ocean Technology.

"Consequently, rethinking and developing industry clusters are required if we are to do the job—and make a positive difference for the Norwegian offshore and ocean industries."

The insights from our partners will be included in our continued work facilitated by PwC, and we would like to thank the representatives from our 18 partners for their valuable insights.
