Pemex Reports Fire Incident at Gulf of Mexico Platform

PEMEX reports on workers affected by the fire at the Akal-B offshore platform located in the Campeche Sound:

  • 5 PEMEX workers: 2 of them with first- and second-degree burn injuries in stable health condition; another 2 with contusions in stable health condition and a worker who will be mobilized to Mexico City for treatment in serious health condition.
  • 3 workers of the DIAVAZ company: they were evaluated at the Social Security hospital and were discharged.
  • 6 workers of the COTER company: one worker was evaluated at the Social Security hospital and discharged; three workers with first- and second-degree burn injuries are hospitalized in the same institution in stable health condition; a hospitalized worker in serious condition; and, sadly, one worker who died.

The fire originated in a section of the Akal B platform designated for gas pipelines, raising immediate alarm within the company and the surrounding maritime community.

The inspection and evaluation of the area continues to establish the causes of this fire and the actions that allow the restoration of the operation of the Process Center.
