Aramco has celebrated the signing of 23 new additional rig contracts in support of Upstream’s Unconventional Resources Gas Development Program.

The program aims to achieve production of 2.5 billion cubic feet per day of sales gas by 2030, aligning with their ambitious plan to raise gas production by more than 60% that year compared to current levels. The new contracts aim to enhance performance through automation, with a focus on reducing well delivery time, cutting drilling costs, and bolstering safety measures.

The majority of the new additional rigs will facilitate the ongoing development of Jafurah basin, with the remaining rigs earmarked for South Ghawar and North Arabia Exploration and Development plans. The contracts were awarded to the Arabian Drilling Company, Helmrich & Payne, and Sinopec International.

Operations will commence in the second quarter of 2024.

"This collaboration expands our reach in unconventional gas development. Partnering with such experienced players strengthens our commitment to a diversified energy future."
— Nasir K. Al-Naimi, Upstream president

Khalid M. AlAbdulqader, senior vice president of Unconventional Resources (UR), said the expertise of our partners “complements our existing operations and signifies our commitment to leverage global expertise to expand our unconventional gas program efficiently.”
