Jean Morrison, chair of Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG), has commented on the findings of Robert Gordon University’s new Delivering Our Energy Future report. 

The research highlights the pressing need for an agile and aligned approach to policy decision making from the Scottish and UK governments, if the UK is to achieve a just and fair energy transition by 2030. 

She said: “Now is the time to build on the UK’s half century of experience in the offshore energy industry and further capitalise on the opportunities available with renewable energies, including CCS, hydrogen, and offshore wind. We will need to increase investment in the renewables sector, install critical new infrastructure and grow our skills and capabilities to fully realise our potential as a global energy transition leader.  

“AREG will continue to support its diverse membership community, which will play a fundamental role in ensuring that we advance our decarbonisation efforts and deliver on our renewables ambitions.”
