CompEx, the international scheme for competency validation and certification of personnel who work in explosive atmospheres, has appointed Colin Rowley as a new independent non-executive director.
Colin Rowley joined the CompEx Board in April 2024 and will be an invaluable addition with his extensive background in the energy sector, his passion for safety and his proven track record as an experienced people and business leader.
Colin has spent more than 30 years in senior leadership roles, most recently as group chairperson at Dron & Dickson, a specialist in the integrated supply, installation and maintenance of harsh and hazardous area electrical equipment.
Dron & Dickson has been operating for almost a century in high-risk, hazardous environments, initially serving the mining and shipbuilding industries before moving into oil and gas in the 1970s.
Under Colin’s leadership and through the strategic acquisition of Cable Solutions Worldwide, he positioned Dron & Dickson for growth in new markets including a successful transition into renewables.
His work has seen him named EY Entrepreneur of the Year, the Institute of Directors (IoD) West of Scotland Director of the Year, and he is a member of the Young Presidents Organization.
Steve Bratt, CompEx board chairman, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Colin as a Non-Executive Director to the CompEx Board. His extensive experience in the energy sector, combined with his unwavering commitment to safety and competency will be instrumental in driving CompEx’s strategic initiatives and enhancing our industry leadership.
CompEx’s next phase of growth will be our most transformative yet as we adapt to industry needs, securing our place in the energy transition and blending classroom and digital learning to further embed competency. Colin’s insights and expertise will undoubtedly add significant value to CompEx and our practitioners as we navigate these changing dynamics.”
Colin Rowley said:
“Throughout my career, I’ve always been passionate about safety and competency and my top priority is making sure everyone gets home safely.
CompEx is an incredibly important industry scheme which not only certifies the competence of those working in hazardous environments, but also builds confidence for employers that they are keeping their people and assets safe. I am excited to support CompEx as it continues to support and promote workplace safety and set new industry standards.”
