New Zealand’s government has removed the ban on offshore exploration that has been in place since 2018. PGS has regional coverage and high-grade GeoStreamer 3D ready for evaluation.
The Taranaki Basin is the only producing petroleum basin in New Zealand. PGS completed a contiguous regional 3D data product in 2016, complemented by high-quality GeoStreamer 3D datasets for broadband insights with Taranaki South (2016) and Taranaki West (2017).
"Natural gas is critical to keeping our lights on and our economy running, especially during peak electricity demand and when generation dips because of more intermittent sources like wind, solar and hydro," revealed New Zealand’s Resources Minister as he announced plans for renewed exploration efforts.
PGS Coverage
Taranaki MegaSurvey
PGS built the first regional contiguous 3D seismic coverage in the Taranaki Basin in 2016. The Taranaki Basin is the only producing petroleum basin in New Zealand. Improved regional seismic coverage helps to better understand the charge model.
Taranaki South
After building the first regional contiguous 3D seismic coverage in the Taranaki Basin, in 2016 PGS acquired a long-offset GeoStreamer MC3D dataset to provide broadband imaging and link interpretation to the regional seismic coverage.
Taranaki West
In 2017, a second long-offset GeoStreamer 3D dataset added additional imaging of the Taranaki Basin and linked a new interpretation to the regional coverage offered by Taranaki MegaSurvey.
