The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Angeliki Kalligiannaki as its new Head of Greece.
Ms Kalligiannaki currently serves as Associate Director, Senior Banker, in the Manufacturing and Services team at the EBRD. She will start her new role on 1 September, replacing Andreea Moraru, who was recently announced as the Bank’s Regional Director for Poland and the Baltic States.
A Greek national, Ms Kalligiannaki joined the Bank in 2013 and has since held a number of roles at the EBRD, including in Risk Management, Treasury and the EBRD’s regional office in Warsaw, before transferring to Athens in 2016.
Prior to joining the Bank, she worked for S&P’s Capital IQ as a Quantitative Analyst, and in the Derivatives Valuation Unit of the European Investment Bank.
In her current role, Ms Kalligiannaki has made a substantial contribution to the Bank’s operations in Greece by originating and closing a wide range of projects. She has also played a pivotal role in the implementation of the Greek Recovery and Resilience Facility Co-Financing Framework.
Ms Kalligiannaki said:
“I am honoured to take on this role and lead the EBRD’s efforts to support sustainable economic growth in Greece. The focus will be on maximising our impact by building on the strong relationships we have established with the Greek authorities, corporations and financial institutions. Together with the talented team in Athens, we are committed to ensuring that the Bank remains a trusted partner in supporting Greece’s long-term economic development.”
The EBRD started operating in Greece on a temporary basis in 2015 to support the country’s economic recovery. To date, the Bank has invested more than €7.8 billion in 114 projects in the corporate, financial, energy and infrastructure sectors of the Greek economy.
Highlights of the Bank’s work in the country include transactions in non-performing loan resolution, securitisations and investments in bond issuances; flagship property projects such as The Ellinikon and Piraeus Tower; the country’s largest renewable-energy project, in Kozani; and financing of the Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation, the Public Power Corporation of Greece, Viva Wallet and others.
