PetroStrat's Multi-Client Manager Alex De Jonghe, will be giving a technical presentation at the upcoming EAGE Stavanger event (22nd October) around the process by which geoscience teams at PetroStrat conceive and address reservoir-scale uncertainties with regional exploration studies, as multiclient projects. Alex will present examples on PetroStrat’s integrated approach to regional reservoir characterisation including the core PetroStrat disciplines of Biostratigraphy and Reservoir Geology, alongside input from third-party specialists providing datasets including QEMSCAN analysis, heavy mineral analysis and seismic interpretation

Talk Title – Our multidisciplinary geological formulas, behind reservoir-scale regional multiclients; defining and addressing exploration uncertainties – using examples from the Jurassic and Cretaceous of Mid-Norway

Alex De Jonghe; a Micropalaeontologist by background, and Multiclient Manager at PetroStrat Limited. Alex has worked in upstream geoscience consultancies for ~15 years (Fugro Robertson/CGG, Ichron/RPS and now PetroStrat), designing regional geological studies & databases that are commercialised as multiclient projects. With these studies, we typically aim to characterise the variability in stratigraphic and sedimentological presentation of reservoir sands, to support operator exploration teams. Alex currently works in support of Norwegian companies, but has previously focused upon Myanmar, Russia, Kazakhstan, India, and the Middle East.

A small teaser of what you can expect in this Tech Talk

As exploration in the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) matures, focus has shifted towards more complex, model-driven plays around existing infrastructure. This talk delves into the selected strategies employed by PetroStrat to tackle these reservoir-scale challenges, using examples below from the Norwegian Sea

• Deeply Buried (>4km) Jurassic Sands: Learn about our research into the ‘anomalous’ retention of primary porosity within sands of the Garn Formation and Sub-Garn Sand Complex (Ile, Tofte and Tilje Formations). Our work lends geological context to recent discoveries including Bergknapp, Tyrihans, and Dvalin North. Four years spent studying the occurrence and impact of diagenetic pore-lining chlorite ‘wooly jackets’!
• Thin Deepwater Cretaceous Turbidites: This study of the Lysing and Intra-Lange formations combined stratigraphy, provenance, and reservoir geology. It was inspired by finds like Warka and Egyptian Vulture. We provide a resolute framework documenting the timing, location, facies, and reservoir quality of sands within this deepwater, largely pelagic mud-dominated system. One innovative technique involved flipping the application of biostratigraphy (principally used to chronostratigraphically age-date rocks using in-situ assemblages) to focus of reworked palynological specimens as provenance proxies.

PetroStrat's regional studies are intended to serve as predictive references for exploration teams, helping clients to understand and seek to replicate these successes, through placing discoveries into stratigraphic, depositional and diagenetic context.
