Spicers Creek Wind Farm Becomes One of Largest Approved in NSW

01/11/2024

Squadron Energy is one step closer to starting construction on Spicers Creek Wind Farm with NSW Independent Planning Commission (IPC) approval.

The wind farm is one of the largest approved in NSW, is proposed to include up to 117 wind turbines and is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 395,000 homes and prevent 650,000 tonnes of emissions annually.

Squadron Energy Head of Project Development Trish McDonald said approval for the 700MW wind farm in the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ) was a major milestone for the project.

“This project is going to create more than 330 jobs and inject $46.9 million into the regional economy,” Trish said.

“The team is now working on detailed design, management plans and other secondary approvals, so we can get the project shovel ready.

"We will continue to work closely with landholders and community stakeholders, seeking feedback from the local community as the project progresses.

“Central to our work is making a positive and long-lasting contribution to the regions we operate in, and we are committed to sharing the benefits of our projects with the local community.”

Squadron Energy is encouraging local contractors and service providers to register their interest for supplying goods and services to the project.

All documentation relating to the IPC’s decision, including the Conditions of Consent can be found on the IPC website - Spicers Creek Wind Farm.

Spicers Creek Wind Farm is located on Wiradjuri Country, west of Gulgong and 25km northeast of Wellington.
