Pakistan Petroleum announce discoveries in Sindh

07/12/2018

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), the Operator of the Block 2467-16 (Shah Bandar) EL with 63% working interest, has made a gas discovery at its exploration well Benari X-1 (ST-2) located in District Sujawal, Sindh Province.

Exploration well Benari X-1 (ST-2) was spudded-in on 22 May, 2018 and drilled to a depth of 3,470m to test the hydrocarbon potential of Lower Goru Formation. Based on wire line logs, potential hydrocarbon bearing zones were identified inside target reservoir. Drill Stem Testing in A-Sand Unit of Upper Sand, Lower Goru Formation flowed 9.05 million cubic feet per day of gas at Flowing Well Head Pressure of 855 psi on 48/64” choke.

PPL's Joint Venture Partners are Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) with 32% WI and Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited (SEHCL) and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) with 2.5% WI each

PPL additionally reported a Gas and Condensate Discovery at its exploration well Hadaf X-1 (ST) located in District Sanghar, Sindh.

Exploration well Hadaf X-1 (ST) was spudded-in on 29th August, 2018 and drilled to a depth of 3,700m to test the hydrocarbon potential of Massive Sands of Lower Goru Formation. Based on wireline logs, potential hydrocarbon bearing zones were identified inside target reservoirs. The Drill Stem Testing in the Massive Sand (Deep) of Lower Goru Formation flowed:

  • 18.6 million cubic feet per day of gas, condensate of 160 barrels per day along with 65 barrels of water per day at Flowing Well Head Pressure of 1,307 psi on 56/64” choke.
  • 12.1 million cubic feet per day of gas, condensate of 157 barrels per day along with 35 barrels of water per day at Flowing Well Head Pressure of 2,290 psi on 32/64” choke.

PPL is Operator of Block 2568-18 (Gambat South) EL with 65% WI, along with its Joint Venture Partners Government Holdings Private Limited and Asia Resources Oil Limited (AROL) with 25% and 10% WI, respectively.

These discoveries will add additional hydrocarbon reserves and also enable the energy sector to reduce the gap between supply and demand of oil and gas during the current energy crisis in the country.
