Eurowind Energy and Arla Enter PPA

21/01/2025

Eurowind Energy and Arla have entered another PPA (Power Purchase Agreement). The new agreement spans 10 years and ensures Arla 60,000 MWh of electricity per year produced by wind and solar from two of Eurowind Energys upcoming energy parcs. The amount of electricity corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 15,000 Danish households.

In 2022, Arla entered a 10-year PPA with Eurowind Energy from the Nørre Økse Sø park, which was the first major step in the journey to ensure that Arla in Denmark meets its goal of 100 percent green electricity by 2025 in Denmark. The new agreement ensures that Arla will collectively purchase just under 2 TWh of electricity from Eurowind Energy’s energy parcs during the agreement period.

Eurowind Energy develops, builds, and operates renewable energy parks, but part of the business is also selling electricity to larger customers. In this way, larger companies can ensure a guarantee for a large amount of green electricity, which can meet the large demand for electricity that is typically characteristic of companies of a certain size.

“Arla is a good example of how buying green electricity is a simple and effective way towards greater climate neutrality for a company. We continue to expand our many upcoming parcs. Thus, we are an obvious partner for companies like Arla that are ambitious when it comes to climate goals,” says Jesper Schaumburg-Düring, Commercial Director at Eurowind Energy.

The sale of electricity directly from the park is a growing business area for Eurowind Energy. The company already covers most of the value chain in the green transition, and therefore it is obvious to trade directly with larger customers.

“If a larger company wants to guarantee that the electricity it uses comes from renewable energy sources, then a PPA is the simple way to ensure that it happens,” explains Jesper Schaumburg-Düring.

In 2022, Arla purchased all the electricity from the Nørre Økse Sø wind farm near Brovst in Jammerbugt, where the 11 turbines deliver approximately 137,000 MWh of electricity per year – equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 34,000 Danish households.
