NDC project receives decommissioning grant

Twelve projects across Scotland will be offered a share of £2.5 million in the third round of the Scottish Government’s Decommissioning Challenge Fund (DCF) awards.

A project that is being delivered by the University of Aberdeen, with the support of the National Decommissioning Centre in Newburgh and the Oil & Gas Technology Centre, is one of 12 to be selected to receive funding. The project 'P&A Isolation Barrier Verification Rig FEED Study' is to undertake a Front End Engineering Design (FEED) of a barrier qualification rig which could be developed and used for testing.

The DCF supports infrastructure improvements and innovation to deliver decommissioning of North Sea oil and gas infrastructure.

Other projects in this round to receive funding are: 

  • innovation and research in pipeline cleaning, well plugging and abandonment
  • dry dock upgrades
  • feasibility studies
  • decommissioning pad investigation
  • specialist decommissioning equipment
