Extraction of resources on the Norwegian continental shelf so that they create the greatest possible value for society is an important driving force for the new director of the Norwegian Continental Shelf Directorate.

This week, Hege Susanne Blåsternes took up the position of Director of Area Development and Technology (OUT) at the Norwegian Continental Shelf Directorate.

"I believe in the main goal of the Norwegian Continental Shelf Directorate to contribute to the greatest possible value for society from oil and gas activities on the shelf. In this position, I have the opportunity to contribute to long-term and good decisions that can lead to us utilizing the resources we have left in the best possible way," she says.

Blåsternes has more than 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and extensive experience as a manager. She holds a major in petroleum physics and significant expertise in subsurface disciplines in the oil and gas industry.

"Even though we are facing a decline in production in the coming years, I strongly believe that there is great value left on the Norwegian continental shelf. They must be developed in the best possible way. This also means that we must all contribute to finding new solutions and be willing to change. We, as authorities, together with the players on the shelf, must achieve this together. I have great faith that we will succeed in doing so."

In her new position, she will be responsible for area development, engaging industry, and developing and implementing new technology.

"This means that it is not just the best solutions for individual licensees or companies, but that decisions are put in a larger context. We have a lot to gain from increased recovery, making things smarter and more cost-effective by developing and adopting new technology."
