LPA Approves Exploration Plans for Lebanese Blocks 4 and 9

On the 28th of May 2018, the Minister of Energy and Water HE Cezar Abi Khalil, based on the recommendation of the LPA, approved the exploration plans for the first exploration period in blocks 4 and 9. 

The consortium of companies holding petroleum rights in blocks 4 and 9 and composed of Total E&P Liban SAL – Eni Lebanon B.V. – Novatek Lebanon SAL had submitted the exploration plans on the 27th of March 2018. 

The approved exploration plans specify the intent of the right holders to carry out specific geological and environmental studies and conduct the logistical preparations including the issuance of the necessary permits with the goal of drilling the first exploration well in 2019. 

The first exploration period in both blocks 4 and 9 extends over a period of 3 years starting from the date of approval of the exploration plans. 

As per the exploration and production agreements, the right holders are required to drill at least one exploration well per block during the first exploration period.
