The University of Aberdeen has hosted a meeting with Energy Minister Michael Shanks, bringing together industry stakeholders from across the UK to discuss the role of supply chains in the energy transition.
Organised by the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero and hosted by the University’s Director for Energy Transition, Professor John Underhill, the event on Thursday, 19 June saw around 15 delegates from sector bodies including OEUK, Global Underwater Hub, the Energy Industries Council, Scottish Renewables and the Offshore Co-ordinating Group join industry and academic leaders to discuss how best to use the oil and gas supply chain expertise to build the UK’s energy future.
Hosted at the University’s Science Teaching Hub, attendees discussed a range of points including the key principles for guiding transition planning to ensure workers and communities are at the centre.
Professor Underhill said:
“The UK oil and gas supply chain is a UK industrial success story created over the past 60 years through the exploration and development of the UK’s North Sea oil and gas reserves. It is a world-leading industrial supply chain with an unrivalled range of products, services and expertise.
“The University has a long history of delivering interdisciplinary research and innovative solutions that evaluate and address current and future energy challenges. It was a pleasure to help convene and host this important roundtable and facilitate discussions on how the oil and gas sector can play an important role in diversifying and strengthening supply chains across the energy mix during the transition period.”
