Moeve secures €303.75 million For Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley Project

30/06/2025

The project’s first phase, known as Onuba, involves the construction of a green hydrogen plant in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva) with 400 MW of electrolysis capacity and the creation of 10,000 direct, indirect, and induced jobs

Moeve has been awarded €303.75 million for the initial phase of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley, as part of the Strategic Project for the Economic Recovery and Transformation of Renewable Energies, Renewable Hydrogen, and Storage (PERTE ERHA) promoted by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. This is the largest individual grant awarded, representing a quarter of the total funding, and the only project selected in Andalusia, Spain.

The first phase of the project, known as Onuba, will be financed through the European Union’s NextGenerationEU funds and involves the construction of a green hydrogen plant with 400 MW of electrolysis capacity in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva). During the development of the industrial complex, the company is expected to generate around 10,000 jobs, including direct, indirect, and induced employment.

The Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley is the largest project of its kind in Europe and a testament to Moeve’s commitment to leading the production of green molecules, especially green hydrogen, a key energy vector for decarbonizing hard-to-electrify sectors such as industry, heavy road transport, and air and maritime transportation.

The full scope of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley involves a total investment of more than €3 billion and includes the construction of two green hydrogen production centers at Moeve’s energy parks in La Rábida (Palos de la Frontera, Huelva) and San Roque (Campo de Gibraltar, Cádiz). Together, these facilities will have a combined electrolysis capacity of 2 GW and produce up to 300,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, putting Andalusia at the forefront of green hydrogen production in Europe.
