PetroStrat Launches New Petrophysical Analysis Service

07/07/2025

PetroStrat today announced petrophysical analysis is now available to their clients, as part of their Reservoir Geology services. This new capability is delivered by a well-established team of experts, now part of PetroStrat following the acquisition of CGG-Viridien’s Geology Group. The team brings decades of petrophysical expertise, now fully integrated into PetroStrat's in-house geoscience service suites.

Offering petrophysical analysis strengthens PetroStrat's integrated approach to subsurface characterisation, providing clients with deeper insights into reservoir quality, connectivity and producibility.

How Petrophysical analysis can de-risk subsurface operations

Petrophysical analysis plays a key role in reducing uncertainty across exploration, appraisal, and development phases. By combining petrophysical interpretation with core, geochemical and stratigraphic data, PetroStrat deliver consistent and calibrated geoscience data across entire fields or plays.

  • Petrophysical data can improve subsurface model accuracy, including net sand, reservoir and pay estimates, supporting better decision-making across the asset lifecycle
  • Enhanced reservoir characterisation provides key data to underpin both cored and uncored interval modelling, and wider field predictions
  • An increased understanding of the interaction between fluid and rock within the reservoirs enable a better assessment of the development potential of hydrocarbon resources
  • An integrated and iterative approach with other subsurface disciplines ensures accurate and reliable petrophysical interpretation and results

Key capabilities of our new Petrophysics team

PetroStrat petrophysical services include:

Petrophysical Interpretation

  • Processing and conditioning of composite datasets
  • Well log conditioning (removal of tool artefacts, casing effects and borehole washouts)
  • Integration of routine core analysis (RCA), special core analysis (SCAL), X-ray diffraction (XRD), QEMSCAN and fluid analyses
  •  Evaluate fluid, mineral and clay volumes using appropriate petrophysical models
  • Generate net reservoir/pay sums and averages by using field wide consistent petrophysical cut-offs

Formation Pressure Analysis

  • Quality control of individual pre-test data
  • Identification of invalid or spurious tests (lost seal, supercharged etc.)
  • Determination of fluid contacts points, pressure gradients and fluid densities

Porosity / Permeability Analysis

  • Evaluation of RCA
  • Generation of initial set of porosity-permeability relationships

Saturation Modelling, Rock Typing & Electrofacies

  • Rock characterisation from RCA, SCAL, capillary pressure and relative permeability
  • Identification of pore types, capillary pressure and saturation height modelling
  • Rock-type mapping/prediction across wells, through cored and uncored intervals, based on SCAL data and using electrofacies methods.
