On the 23rd June 2025 the Employee Ownership Association once again helped celebrate Employee-Owned companies by organising the 13th EO day. The day aims to raise awareness of employee-owned companies and the many benefits being employee owned brings. The theme this year was eoSmile.

On 1st July 2025, Merlin Energy Resources celebrated being 9 years as an employee-owned company. To mark the occasion, the staff at Merlin took a trip to the Lapworth Museum of Geology at Birmingham University, donned our detective caps and took part in a fun Murder Mystery game. We got to follow clues, look high and low around the museum and enjoy the range of fossil and rock specimens on display. By popular opinion we enjoyed the UV light rock display the best, with numerous ‘ooo’s’ and ‘aaar’s’ as the rocks glowed bright green, orange and purple in the different ranges of UV light. You’ll be pleased to know we completed all three tasks, solved the crimes and murders and had a lot of fun.

Having spent the morning indoors, we spent the reminder of the day making the most of the glorious weather at Winterbourne House and Gardens, just a short walk away from the museum. After lunch on the terrace of the Edwardian House we explored the beautiful gardens, particularly enjoying the pagoda and sandstone rock gardens. There was certainly a lot of inspiration to take back to our own gardens.

All the staff at Merlin are very proud to be employee owners, and spending the day together outside of the office always helps encourage and strengthen bonds within the team. We had a very enjoyable day, and all left with an #eoSmile on our faces, so we certainly hit the theme of this year’s celebration.
