CNOOC Limited's wholly-owned subsidiary has signed production sharing contracts (PSCs) with SKK Migas, the regulatory agency under the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, companies affiliated with other partners in the Tangguh project, EnQuest and Agra for two exploration blocks in Indonesia.

The contract covers the Gaea and Gaea II blocks, both located in southern West Papua Province, Indonesia, near the Tangguh project. The first phase of the exploration period, as stipulated in the contract, is three years.

In April 2025, the Indonesian government announced the winning bids for the Gaea and Gaea II blocks. Tangguh project partners (BP Exploration Indonesia Limited, MI Berau BV, ENEOS Xplora Inc., CNOOC Southeast Asia Limited, Indonesia Natural Gas Resources Muturi Inc., and KG Wiriagar Petroleum Ltd.) collectively hold a 40% non-operator interest, of which a wholly-owned subsidiary of CNOOC holds a 5.56% interest.
