Wien Energie to Acquire ImWind

01/09/2025

Wien Energie intends to acquire all shares in ImWind. The two companies share the common goal of creating an independent, secure, and sustainable energy supply. ImWind, with offices in Vienna, Pottenbrunn (Lower Austria), and Mainz (Germany), is a major domestic player in the wind power and photovoltaics sector. ImWind has been developing, building, and operating renewable energy generation plants in Austria and abroad for 30 years. Even after the planned acquisition of all shares by Wien Energie, ImWind, with its team of around 100 experts, will continue to exist independently on the market as a company and brand. The completion of the acquisition is subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities.

Two companies, one goal

According to forecasts, Austria's electricity demand is expected to increase massively by 2040. Only a significant expansion of photovoltaics and wind power is the key to achieving long-term, independent electricity supply for Austria. Both Wien Energie and ImWind have been implementing numerous renewable energy projects for years. Wien Energie currently operates 500 photovoltaic systems, 88 hydroelectric power plants in Austria and abroad, and 106 wind turbines. ImWind operates 52 wind turbines in 14 wind farms and four photovoltaic plants. Together, the two companies will combine their expertise in the development and expansion of renewable energies and work together toward the common goal of climate neutrality by 2040.

Photovoltaics and wind power as future technologies in Austria

Wien Energie announced in October of last year that it intended to acquire two wind farms and one solar farm from ImWind. The Mönchhof wind farm is now part of Wien Energie's green electricity portfolio. All turbines currently in ImWind's fleet will continue to be operated by ImWind after the acquisition. Going forward, Wien Energie and ImWind will jointly drive the expansion of green electricity, focusing on photovoltaics and wind power.
