Supercritical Solutions, a leading innovator in green hydrogen technology, welcomes Siobhan Clarke as its new Chairperson of the Board. Clarke brings over 25 years of executive leadership and expertise in scaling innovative deep-tech companies.
The appointment completes Supercritical’s expanded five person board that was established following the company’s successful £14M Series A funding round led by Shell Ventures and Toyota Ventures in late 2024. Clarke will be joining two of Supercritical’s founders, Matt Bird (CEO) and Luke Tan (CPO), and investor directors Bilal Ahmed (Shell Ventures) and Omar Laalej (Al Mada Ventures), bringing leadership, experience and impartial balance to the boardroom. Clarke’s appointment ensures Supercritical’s trajectory remains focused on delivering maximum value to its shareholders whilst remaining true to its vision of being the catalyst for sustainable life on earth.
Clarke holds over 25 years of experience scaling deep-tech companies. Her background includes senior executive roles at Cisco and bp, investment leadership as Partner at Episode 1 Ventures and over a decade of board service across the UK and US. She’s worked across three continents in London, Singapore and San Francisco. Her work as Operating Partner at bp Launchpad, supporting and rapidly scaling disruptive energy companies through investing, acquiring and spinning in technologies and companies, makes her uniquely qualified to guide Supercritical through its next phase of growth towards commercial deployment.
Supercritical is accelerating the scale-up of its unique, patented, ultra-efficient, high-pressure electrolysis technology. Clarke’s leadership will be key to supporting the company’s strategy as it prepares to launch its first commercial pilot in 2027, with full commercialisation set for later this decade. Supercritical aims to disrupt industries using the largest amounts of hydrogen by offering green hydrogen at high pressure, at the world’s lowest-cost.
Of her appointment as Chairperson, Clarke said:
“I’m excited to join Supercritical at such a pivotal stage in its journey. The team has developed a breakthrough electrolyser technology with the potential to make green hydrogen truly affordable and scalable, addressing one of the toughest barriers in the energy transition. With world-class partners already on board and a clear path to commercialisation, this is a unique opportunity to work alongside an incredibly talented and ambitious Board and team to scale and deliver real impact across industries that are critical to decarbonisation.”
Matt Bird, CEO and Co-Founder, Supercritical Solutions, commented:
“Siobhan’s appointment comes at exactly the right moment as we transition from breakthrough innovation to commercial scale. Her experience scaling deep-tech ventures and guiding disruptive energy technologies will be invaluable as we prepare for our first pilot and accelerate towards market deployment. With her leadership, our Board is even stronger and fully aligned on delivering the lowest-cost green hydrogen to the industries that need it most.”
Supercritical is processing enquiries about first of a kind pilots and accepting capacity reservations for its initial commercial products. Additionally, the Supercritical team is all around the world over the coming months. Siobhan Clarke will be joining Luke Tan (CPO) and Dr Abi Mountain in Brussels for European Hydrogen Week from September 29th.
