Title: Carbon Capture Pilot Plant and Rotliegend Group Storage Unit Core
Date: Tuesday 9 December 2025
Location: Imperial College London
This half-day workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to explore the Carbon Capture Pilot Plant at Imperial College London, and to examine core from the Rotliegend Group reservoir in the abandoned Saturn gas field. The Carbon Capture Pilot Plant is a four-storey-high, state-of-the-art facility that represents a scaled-down industrial plant, which enables hands-on education in operating and controlling such plants.
The Rotliegend Group is being assessed as a CO₂ storage unit in multiple depleted gas fields in the southern North Sea, including for the current Viking, Camelot and Poseidon projects; core allows geological heterogeneities that control CO₂ flow and trapping to be characterised. The Carbon Capture Pilot Plant and Rotliegend Group core represent key components of the Carbon Capture and Storage.
