Tullow Oil Seeks 2040 Extension for Jubilee and TEN Petroleum Licenses in Ghana

28/12/2025

Tullow Oil plc has announced that it has formally initiated the process to extend the petroleum licenses for the Jubilee and TEN (Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme) fields offshore Ghana to 2040, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the country’s energy sector.

The proposed extensions, subject to regulatory approvals and final agreements with the Government of Ghana and joint venture partners, are intended to support continued production, enhanced recovery projects, and further investment in the two flagship assets. Jubilee and TEN remain central to Ghana’s offshore oil production and to Tullow’s portfolio in West Africa.

Tullow said the license extensions would provide greater certainty for long-term field development planning, enabling the company and its partners to optimize production, improve recovery factors, and progress additional infill drilling and infrastructure upgrades. The move is also expected to help maximize value for the state through sustained revenues, local content development, and employment opportunities.

The Jubilee field, which came on stream in 2010, was Ghana’s first major offshore oil discovery and remains one of West Africa’s most significant deepwater developments. The TEN fields began production in 2016 and complement Jubilee through shared infrastructure and operational synergies.

Tullow emphasized that environmental stewardship, operational safety, and responsible production will remain at the core of its activities in Ghana. The company also reiterated its commitment to local participation, capacity building, and alignment with Ghana’s broader energy and economic development goals.

Discussions on the license extensions are ongoing, and Tullow said it will provide further updates as the process advances.
