Crystol Energy announces that its Chief Executive Officer, Dr Carole Nakhle, has been admitted to the Freedom of the City of London, one of the oldest surviving civic honours in the world, dating back to the 1400s.
The Freedom of the City recognises individuals for their professional distinction and contributions to society and public life. The ceremony, largely unchanged for over six centuries, is conducted with meticulous precision and reflects the enduring heritage and civic spirit of the City of London. Over the years, the Freedom has been conferred upon notable figures including Sir Winston Churchill, Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Professor Stephen Hawking, and His Majesty King Charles III.
Dr Carole Nakhle is admitted to the Freedom of the City of London, recognising professional distinction and leadership in the energy sector
Reflecting on the honour, Dr Carole Nakhle, CEO of Crystol Energy, said:
“Being admitted to the Freedom of the City of London is a rare and humbling distinction. It is a vivid reminder of the history, ceremony, and enduring spirit of the City, and an honour to take part in a tradition that has connected remarkable individuals across centuries.”
Dr Nakhle’s admission builds on her longstanding engagement with the City’s institutions. In 2024, she became a member of the Worshipful Company of Fuellers, one of the City of London’s historic livery companies. Originally rooted in the coal trade, the Fuellers’ Company today brings together professionals from across the energy sector and commerce. Membership of a livery company is one of the traditional pathways to the Freedom of the City.
Commenting on the admission, Lord Howell, Chairman of Crystol Energy, said:
“The great and ancient guilds of the City of London are often seen as belonging to the past. But today they are increasingly in touch with the future. The admission of Dr Carole Nakhle, leading to the Freedom of the City, is a strong signal that the brightest and most informed young technologists and professionals now see the City guilds and their convening powers as their meeting place — a cross-network of professionalism and innovation as industry takes entirely new shapes and moves in new directions.
Well done, Dr Nakhle, and well done the City.”
Lord David Howell is former UK Secretary of State, former Minister for International Energy Security, and former Advisory Director of UBS.
