Risk and Uncertainty Assessment of Geothermal Projects using the Reverse Enthalpy Methodology

How do we turn complex subsurface data into confident investment decisions? Join us for an expert session featuring Roberto Gambini, a leader with nearly 40 years of experience at Enel Green Power, Shell, and ENI. We will explore the Reverse Enthalpy Methodology (REM)—an innovative approach tailored to the unique realities of geothermal development.

Key Technical Objectives

  • Importance of Risk Assessment: Why robust and auditable risk assessment is essential for geothermal investment decisions.
  • Lifecycle Framework: A consistent lifecycle framework for quantifying uncertainty and probability of success.
  • Linking to NPV: Using the Reverse Enthalpy Methodology (REM) to link subsurface performance to NPV outcomes.

Roberto Gambini is a highly experienced technical and commercial manager with almost four decades of international experience in the geothermal and upstream energy sectors. Throughout his career, he has held senior leadership roles in major energy companies, including Enel Green Power (EGP), Enterprise Oil, Shell, OMV, and ENI. He currently serves as Co-CEO of Geological Engineering Network Srl and as Visiting Professor of Geology of Energy Transition at the G. d’Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara, Italy.

During his years at Enel Green Power, he was Head of the Global Geothermal Technological Line, responsible for Enel’s worldwide geothermal portfolio. In this role, he gained extensive expertise across all stages of geothermal project development and contributed to advancing technological and strategic innovation within the sector.

Earlier in his career, he served as Vice President for Exploration, Development, and Operations (EDO) in Enel’s Upstream Gas Division, as CEO and later Chairman of Enel Longanesi Development Srl, and as Enel Trade’s Country Manager in Algeria.
