bp has announced plans to relocate its operations from its long-standing Sunbury-on-Thames campus to a new, consolidated headquarters in central London. The move is expected to take place between late 2027 and early 2028.
The energy supermajor has agreed a 192,000 sq ft lease at the Timber Square office scheme at Bankside with developers Landsec.
The decision forms part of bp’s broader strategy to bring key business, technology, and leadership teams into a single, modern workspace designed to enhance collaboration, efficiency, and innovation. The new headquarters will be located in Southwark, positioning the company closer to partners, stakeholders, and global transport links.
BP’s Sunbury site has been a central part of the company’s UK presence for over a century. While the transition marks the end of an era, the company emphasised that the move reflects its commitment to evolving how it operates in a rapidly changing energy landscape.
“We are proud of our long history in Sunbury and the role the site has played in BP’s development,” a company spokesperson said. “This move allows us to create a more integrated and agile working environment that supports our future ambitions.”
The transition will be managed over several years, with plans in place to support employees throughout the relocation process. bp confirmed that it will continue to engage with local stakeholders and authorities to ensure a smooth transition and to explore future opportunities for the Sunbury site.
Spelthorne Borough Council, which owns the site, said there is “no immediate concern” to its financial position as bp is still tied into lease agreements. The council understands the company will continue paying rent and associated costs, even after it moves out and one of those leases does not expire until 2036.
