Brett Jackson, Jacqui Watt and Jo Middleton
A dedicated champion of the power of networking has been recognised for her tireless work connecting people thanks to an award.
During this year’s Aberdeen-Houston Gateway hosted by Granite PR at Macdonald Norwood Hall Hotel, Jacqui Watt was named as recipient of The Travis Middleton Memorial Connector of Excellence Award. The accolade was created in memory of one of the driving forces behind the creation of the annual event and was presented by his widow, Jo. The award is presented annually to recognise an individual who embodies the spirit of the event and has demonstrated exceptional skills in fostering relationships, creating opportunities and driving business through effective networking and connection building.
Following a career in the oil industry working with the likes of Granherne, Stolt Comex Seaway, BP, and KCA Deutag Jacqui joined professional services organisation Odgers Berndston. Then in 2017, she joined Opportunity North East’s energy team to manage supply chain programme activity, specifically international growth, working in partnership with Scottish Development International. In April 2021 the energy team within Opportunity North East spun out and transitioned to the newly established ETZ Ltd where Jacqui is now development manager.

Houston Gateway 2026 Speakers and Participants
Commenting on the announcement, Jacqui said:
“I believe in the power of networking. Connections shouldn’t end with a contract or purchase order but should go much deeper and be much more meaningful. Connecting people with purpose is one of the key roles of economic development and it leads to opportunities for people, communities and growth.
“I have spent much of my working life traveling the world, meeting people and connecting with others is something that continues to drive and inspire me every day. This award, in memory of someone I admired greatly, is a humbling reminder that great things can happen when you get out there and meet and connect with people.”
Chairing this year’s Aberdeen-Houston Gateway was Mary McIntyre of Houston-based Merrimac International. Reflecting on the event, she said:
“I was so honoured to be chairing the Aberdeen-Houston Gateway this year. We had so many wonderful companies represented at the event sharing great and helpful information for companies looking to bring their technology and resources to Texas. This is always a great and welcoming place to do business, and we welcome everyone - especially the expertise from Scotland.”
