bp Announces Leadership Appointments

01/07/2026

bp today announces the appointment of Sam Skerry as EVP Supply, Trading & Shipping and Sonya Adams as EVP People & Culture.

Sam Skerry has almost 30 years’ experience at bp, having spent most of her career leading businesses in trading across oil, natural gas and derivatives. Most recently she held the role of SVP Mergers & Acquisitions and Business Development, working to simplify bp’s portfolio with a focus on strengthening the balance sheet, reducing costs and profitable growth across the business.

Sonya Adams has more than 25 years’ experience with bp and has held a broad range of senior leadership roles across Asia Pacific, Europe and the UK, spanning customers & products, finance, transformation and, most recently, as Chief of Staff to the CEO.

Both roles are effective on 1 August 2026.

Chief executive officer, Meg O’Neill, said:
“Sam and Sonya bring significant leadership experience to these roles. Sam is widely respected for her commercial and strategic insight, and for her ability to navigate complex, high‑profile commercial situations. As Chief of Staff, Sonya developed a deep understanding of the company and the levers that drive performance. She is passionate about the role of culture, leadership, and capability in enabling strategic shifts, accelerating progress, and helping bp perform at its best. We are moving firmly towards a simpler, stronger, more valuable bp.”

Carol Howle, Deputy CEO, has elected to retire after a 26‑year career with bp. Kerry Dryburgh, EVP People, Culture & Communications, has made a personal decision to leave the company after 16 years. Carol and Kerry will both leave bp later in the third quarter.

O’Neill added:
“I want to thank Carol and Kerry for their outstanding commitment and contribution to bp and wish them every success for the future.

“Carol led the company through a critical transitional phase as Interim and then Deputy CEO. With her departure I have chosen not to replace the Deputy CEO role. We have significant actions underway to streamline the organizational model and we have a focused leadership team in place.”
