Tekmar launch new Mental Health and Wellbeing initiative

24/07/2019

Following the successful launch of Tekmar’s HSQE initiative Tekcare, Tekmar have broadened the initiative to incorporate mental health and wellbeing in an announcement made today.

The health and wellbeing of all Tekmar staff, visitors and stakeholders is a top priority for the company. As part of the expanded programme Tekmar have introduced measures such as encouraging healthy eating by providing fresh fruit daily, organising company-wide activities during working hours and support services and guidance.

Tekmar launch new health and wellbeing initiative, including its first four mental health first aiders (pictured left to right) Paul Berry, Lynn Hood, Russell Edmondson and Rob McGill.

Tekmar are leading with this initiative and want to send out a strong message that as a business we care not just for your physical person and health and safety but also mental health and wellbeing.

With mental health being a key part of a person’s wellbeing, the latest national figures suggest an estimated one in six people have experienced a common mental disorder such as depression or anxiety in the past week and approximately one in four will experience a mental health problem each year.

Russell Edmondson, Managing Director at Tekmar Energy, said:
“The decision for Tekmar to invest in this initiative was simple due to the fact that no matter what our role, we all dedicate a huge proportion of our daily lives to the businesses we work, so personal health and wellbeing should be a number one priority to all employers.”

Rob McGill, HSQE Manager at Tekmar Energy, said:
“There is still a stigma attached to mental health and I am very keen to drive the message home that it’s ok not to be okay. Tekcare is a perfect vehicle for driving that very message home along side our wider HSQE initiatives within the business”.

To date Tekmar have trained four mental health first aiders to assist in this initiative; Paul Berry, Lynn Hood, Russell Edmondson and Rob McGill (pictured). Tekmar also provide HealthShield cover to all staff which allows for various treatments and therapies including supporting mental health.
