Monitoring oil and gas companies and their transition to renewable energy

07/12/2019

KeyFacts Energy is the only online resource that allows users to review both oil and gas and renewable energy operational activity in a selected country as part of their 'Energy Country Review’ company profile database.

As a result of efforts towards decarbonization, there is momentum in the Upstream industry towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050. A determination and strategic path is in progress, demonstrated by the development of a growing number of renewable projects associated with the energy transition.

KeyFacts Energy now highlight details of renewable projects in the 'country-specific' profiles that feature in the 'Energy Country Review' online database. This resource comprises more than 2,300 continually updated upstream companies from a selection of 144 countries.

The following are just a few high-profile examples that illustrate the commitment of major oil companies to embrace the change and the screen shots from our 'country specific' oil and gas company profiles illustrate this transition.

Equinor now powers more than one million European homes with renewable offshore wind from four offshore wind farms in the United Kingdom and Germany. Equinor is building material offshore wind clusters in the UK, the US North East and in the Baltics. The company commissioned the world’s first floating offshore wind farm in 2017 off the coast of Scotland and is positioned for future floating wind options in several geographies, including UK, Norway and Asia.

In support of Suncor’s greenhouse gas (GHG) goal, the company's Renewable Energy team is working to economically add approximately 800 megawatts (MW) of new, more efficient power capacity over the next 10 years. This new power capacity is expected to contribute to both direct and indirect GHG emission reductions. Since entering the renewable power generation business in 2002, Suncor have developed eight wind power projects which have a gross generating capacity of 395 MW.

As part of the company's approach to building their alternative energy business, BP aim to grow their existing businesses and to develop new businesses and partnerships to deliver competitive value in the fastest-growing energy sector.

In line with its commitment to sustainability, Repsol aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, making it the first oil and gas company in the world to assume this ambitious goal. At the same time, it is setting a decarbonization path with intermediate targets for 2020 to 2040.
