Dr. Stuart Archer Joins RPS as Chief Geoscientist for the EAME region

24/01/2020

For employees to excel in their careers and keep up-to-date with industry changes, actively improving competencies through professional development and training must be an ongoing process.

Joining our training team as Chief Geoscientist for the EAME region is Dr. Stuart Archer. With over 20 years industry experience and as an instructor, Stuart will be responsible for assuring that our geoscientific courses and curriculum meet the needs of the energy industry and our clients.

Commenting on his appointment, Stuart said,
“It's a privilege to be training the next generation of energy professionals. There is simply no substitute for the immersive team experience that field trips facilitate - as they build their knowledge and skills, employees grow more confident in their role. We have got to convince subsurface professionals to get out of the office more!”

He also noted that the younger professional is learning in different ways and we need to respond with a larger mix of teaching styles and formats. “Training needs to be flexible and responsive to industry changes. We’re creating new e-learning and blended learning options customised to our clients’ development needs.

Being part of a team that offers such an impressive range of classroom, field and online learning experiences, with such a high level of technical, pedagogical and logistical oversight, is really exciting!”

His research interests are in clastic sequence stratigraphy. He formally held positions as Director of exploHUB, at the University of Aberdeen, and as an exploration, appraisal, development and production geologist, working on projects on the UK and Irish Atlantic Margin, North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. He has worked for ConocoPhillips, Dana Petroleum, Maersk Oil and most recently Total.

Making sure our clients’ employees have the technical knowledge and skills needed to bring energy to market, cost-effectively and safely, is something the training team at RPS has been doing for over 20 years.
