New Chairperson and board changes for Irish Wind Energy Association

27/03/2020

The Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA) announces changes to the composition of its Board, including the appointment of Peter Lynch, from member company Coillte, as its new chairperson.

Peter succeeds former Chair, Peter Harte from Statkraft, who stepped down as IWEA Chairperson following a very successful six-year term.

Peter will bring his experience as Managing Director, Renewable Energy at Coillte, to the board. He is also joined by two other new board members this year: Eoin Cassidy, Partner and Energy Sector Lead at Mason Hayes & Curran and Kevin Moloney, Head of Sales – Ireland, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.

IWEA’s CEO David Connolly said:
“We are very excited with the new additions to the Board and grateful to all our members for providing continued support, particularly as we face the unprecedented challenges created by the Corona virus, to the sector through IWEA.

“We all need to play our part in Ireland’s fight against climate change and I believe wind energy will continue to lead the way in facing this challenge.”

New IWEA Chairperson, Peter Lynch said:
“I am taking on this role as IWEA Chair at a very exciting time for the industry, but also a very challenging time globally. The 2019 Climate Action Plan has set an excellent framework for onshore and offshore wind to be leveraged to their fullest potential in the decades ahead.

“Despite the unprecedented challenges we are all now facing, the wind energy sector is well positioned to continue delivering for Ireland through limiting CO2 emissions, reducing Ireland’s dependency on imported fossil fuels and driving down the wholesale price of electricity."
