RenewableUK has announced the results of its latest Board election. Two new members are joining the Board and two have been re-elected, including the Chair Stephen Bull. The Board supports RenewableUK’s senior management team in setting strategy and priorities for the association, and ensuring that targets are successfully achieved.

The new members are Una Brosnan of Atkins and Ian Hunter of RES.

Una Brosnan is the Business and Strategy Development Manager and Chief Consultant of Atkins Offshore Wind Leadership team. She is a Chartered Civil Engineer with nearly twenty years of industry experience, including the last decade in the offshore wind sector.  Alongside project management work, her strategic role involves engaging governments, key stakeholders and the supply chain, highlighting industry challenges and looking at how we can grow our innovative renewables market to meet the UK’s net zero target. Ms Brosnan is also one of the co-chairs on the Friends of Floating Offshore Wind where she has worked with industry stakeholders from early stages of this technology, as well as being a member of the Technology Advisory Group for the Offshore Innovation Hub.

Ian Hunter of RES was appointed Managing Director of Support Services in 2018. With more than 13 years of experience at RES he has held various roles across the organisation and is a board member of SafetyOn - the health and safety organisation for the onshore wind sector. At RES he is responsible for all Business Development, Asset Management and Operations and Maintenance activities in the UK and Ireland. Mr Hunter is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Stephen Bull is Senior Vice President for Equinor’s North Sea Region and was first elected as Chair of RenewableUK in 2018. He has held senior leadership positions in the energy industry for over 20 years covering offshore wind, floating offshore wind technologies, carbon capture & storage, energy storage and international oil and gas operations. He also serves on expert panels for the UK government covering low carbon technologies.

“I am delighted to be re-elected as Chair for the RenewableUK Board, and to welcome two new members who each bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table. RenewableUK’s membership is broad, so it’s great to see this reflected in the breadth of representation on the Board.

“It’s been an exciting couple of years at RenewableUK, as it redefines its strategy, strengthens its UK management team and looks for opportunities to bring more innovation and diversity to our sector. Last year we were really thrilled to introduce a Shadow Board, made up of rising stars within the clean energy sector, and I’ve been truly impressed with their ideas and drive to shape our future energy system.

“The next two years will of course be more challenging under the backdrop of Covid-19. As well as supporting the supply chain, and ensuring the UK remains an attractive place to invest in renewables, we must also use this as an opportunity to ensure climate change remains on the agenda, and push for a green recovery”.

The other re-elected Board Member, Clark MacFarlane, is both the Managing Director of the Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy’s UK business and the CEO of the Onshore Business across Northern Europe and the Middle East. Since he began working for Siemens in 1997, he has been the CEO or MD of five Siemens UK Businesses covering Power Generation and Services, Defence, Building Technologies and IT Solutions. Mr MacFarlane has been a board member of RenewableUK since 2017 and is also a member of the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC). His background is in Mechanical Engineering.

RenewableUK’s Executive Director Isabel DiVanna said: 
“It’s great to have two very talented new members on the Board, who will bring valuable experience and fresh insights into our work building a modern energy system based on renewables. I’m also glad that two of the most senior and influential figures in our sector have been re-elected, including our Chair, who have worked tirelessly and successfully to help our trade association to extend its remit into new areas such as renewable hydrogen and large-scale battery storage”.   

At the first meeting of the new Board today, Roisin Quinn, Head of National Control and Chief Engineer at National Grid ESO, was re-appointed as Deputy Chair, a position she has held since 2018. It was also confirmed that the Managing Director of CWind Nathanael Allison, James Fisher Marine Services Group’s Business Development Director Martin Dronfield, Shepherd and Wedderburn’s Head of Clean Energy Clare Foster and RBS Sustainable Finance Lead Rishi Madlani will continue to serve as co-opted members of the Board.
