TROVE 1st Subsurface switches focus to Middle East

10/04/2023

The latest video from TROVE 1st Subsurface takes a look at some of the main headlines coming out of the Middle East in Q1 2023, including discoveries in the Turkish Black Sea, field start-up in Oman, production ramp-up in Saudi Arabia, more rigs for Abu Dhabi, and IOR (improved oil recovery) in Iraq.

Saudi Arabia intends to increase production substantially over the coming years. There are also planned production increases within the Kuwait-Saudi Arabia Neutral Zone.

Over the last 3 years, Turkey has had 3 significant discoveries in the Black Sea (Sakarya, Amasra, and most recently Çaycuma). Production from Sakarya was due to commence in Q1 2023 but has been delayed by the February 2023 earthquake disruption.

In Oman, the Shell-operated Mabrouk North East field starts gas production. Also in Oman, drilling news from Block 50 (Masirah Oil).

ADNOC plans to have 142 rigs by end-2024. This is a substantial increase from the 99 rigs announced in 2022.

At the start of April 2023, it was announced in Iraq that the $10 billion GGIP (Gas Growth Integrated Project) will go ahead.

The region's huge oil & gas investment is a stark contrast in energy policy to that of European countries, whose focus is on energy transition rather than energy security.
