EDPR secures 248 MW of wind in Canadian tender

14/12/2017

EDP Renovaveis SA has won a 248.4-MW wind project in the energy tender in Alberta province, Canada.

Through its local arm EDP Renewables Canada Ltda, the company signed a renewable energy support agreement (RESA) with the Alberta Electricity System Operator (AESO) for wind power from the Sharp Hills Wind Farm. The onshore wind project is scheduled to commence commercial operation in December 2019.

Under the auction's rules, if the electricity generated by Sharp Hills sold in the Canadian market has a lower price than the reference stipulated in the contract, the difference will be guaranteed by AESO, EDPR said.

Overall, Alberta province awarded 600 MW of wind projects and negotiated contracts with an average price of CAD 37 (USD 28.8/EUR 24.4) per MWh, the the lowest recorded so far in the country.
